Biography

Bio

Sara Cameron is residential reading faculty, has served as SCC's Coordinator for Developmental Education for over a decade, and is Tri-Chair of SCC's Guided Pathways Steering Committee. She is dedicated to increasing student literacy as a means of providing enduring equity and greater opportunity for marginalized student populations. Her drive to improve student success outcomes pays keen attention to how reform impacts equity gaps and social justice for students. As a result, she is committed to proactively connecting students with campus resources to positively engage in supported success.

Sara earned a Bachelor's of Arts in Elementary Education with Reading and Language Arts endorsements from the University of Iowa and her Master's of Science in Literacy Education from Northern Illinois University. She taught for 7 years in Illinois before moving to Arizona in late 2008 and began teaching for Scottsdale Community College in 2009. She is a certified Maricopa Community Colleges Developmental Educator and has presented her work at conferences and to the MCCCD Governing Board by request. Her work has received recognition both locally, as the Charro's Educator of the Year (2019), and nationally, as a recipient of The League of Innovation's 2017 and 2021 Excellence Awards. Sara has continuously served the college and district through leadership and engagement. In addition to serving as a department chair, instructional council co-chair, and secretary of the Faculty Senate, she has also served the district and college as a participating member of the Guided Pathways Committee, Faculty Senate, Service Learning Committee, Developmental Education Council, and Reading Instructional Council.
