BA Mathematics, Texas Tech University, 2000
MNS Mathematics, Arizona State University, 2002

I became an artichoke in 2005 and never looked back.  During my time here, I have worked with my colleagues to develop what is now our online and hybrid math program here at SCC.  I have written and co-authored OER materials and workbooks which are being used at SCC, across the district, state, and at schools across the country.  I have also taken on a number of leadership positions here at SCC, and across the district and state. These include:

  • Course Coordinator:  MAT09X, MAT12X, MAT114, and MAT155
  • Chair, MAA Southwestern Section (2010)
  • Chair, Developmental Math Advisory Council
  • SCC’s Developmental Education Coordinator (Math)
  • Senator (Mathematics Division), SCC Faculty Senate
  • Hiring Manager (SCC Mathematics)
  • Curriculum and Course Development (District-wide):  MAT103, MAT114, MAT14X, MAT15X, MAT206
  • Curriculum and Course Development (SCC):  MAT09x, MAT114, MAT155, MAT187
  • Development Team for the following OER materials (used at SCC, and at colleges across the Maricopa District)
    • Basic Arithmetic Student Workbook (MAT080, MAT081, MAT082)
    • Intermediate Algebra Student Workbook (MAT120, MAT121, MAT122)
  • Lead Author for the following OER Materials (used at SCC, and at colleges across the Maricopa District)
    • Introductory Algebra Student Workbook (MAT090, MAT091, MAT092)
    • Foundations for College Mathematics Student Workbook (MAT103)
    • Foundations for College Algebra Student Workbook (MAT114)
    • College Algebra with Review Student Workbook (MAT155 and MAT151)

I am currently serving in the following roles at SCC:

  • Tri-Chair for SCC’s Guided Pathways Steering Committee
  • Member of SCC’s Developmental Education Committee
  • Assistant Department Chair:  Mathematics, Computer Science, and Engineering (MCSE)
  • Course Coordinator:  MAT114

But to answer the question, “What do I do?”…I teach.  I enjoy teaching in-person, hybrid, and online classes, ranging from Basic Arithmetic through Calculus.  I love working with students, watching them succeed and move toward their goals.  I see my class as one step in each student’s journey.  I try to push each student to get connected to the resources and opportunities within their Field of Interest (FOI), building the knowledge, skills, and habits of mind that will help them to be successful in a competitive workforce.

Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think. - Albert Einstein
