Biography

Bio

I have been a faculty member at Scottsdale Community College since 2003 when I joined the Counseling department as Counseling Faculty,  In 2009, I moved over to SCC's Psychology department as Psychology Faculty.

I grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and English from the University of Michigan in 1988. I then worked in several psychology-related jobs (research assistant, psychometric technician, research coder, research interviewer, data manager, and data analyst) in Ann Arbor and then Eugene, Oregon during my 20's. Mostly, these were just interesting jobs I could do while making enough money to do some travel, hike a lot, and hang out with friends and significant others. Looking back, it was a time in my life where I learned a lot about myself.

Eventually, I started to feel ready to move into a "career path" and so I started my graduate work in Counseling Psychology, first at the University of Oregon, and then at the University of Utah, where I finally earned my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology in 2003.

Today, I primarily teach the PSY230 - Introduction to Statistics, PSY290AB - Research Methods, and PSY101 - Introduction to Psychology courses at SCC. However, I also have a strong interest in cultural diversity and critical thinking. I have taught cultural diversity classes to graduate-level counseling students, give presentations to organizations and conferences around the country on diversity-related topics, and also teach PSY132 - Psychology and Culture at SCC.

I am married and have 3 children and 2 dogs. I spend most of my free time with my family or being outside. I enjoy hiking, cycling, hockey, in-line skating, and playing just about any sport. I hate jogging but will do it if I can't get some exercise in another way.
