Biography
Hi all,
My name is Krya Perry and I have been teaching for Scottsdale Community College for approximately 15 years now! Please feel free to link to my introductory video or read about me below: https://youtu.be/J2CKqd4tbUc (Links to an external site).
I started my academic studies with a degree in Zoology at Northern Arizona University (go Lumberjacks) and finished up my graduate studies at Arizona State University. My graduate research was performed in collaboration with Barrow Neurological Institute (BNI) where I had the opportunity to work with novel plant compounds on Stage 4 Glioblastoma multiforme brain cancer cells. Following graduate school, I stayed on at BNI in clinical research as a coordinator for various multiple sclerosis trials. I am happy to share more on my experiences in clinical research with anyone who may be interested.
I have been teaching now for the last 15 years and I truly love teaching anything and everything biology! I have taught all of the anatomy courses (160, 201, and 202), marine biology, natural history of the southwest, and both semesters of general biology (181 & 182). Comparative anatomy is a favorite hobby of mine! I have taught online courses now for about 5 years, so just hang in there with me and I will do my best to help you navigate the course!
In my spare time I love to do just about anything in nature (hike, bike, climb, scuba dive, explore new areas of Arizona...). In between raising the 3 little humans that run my household these days, I do a bit of volunteer work and have done everything from tracking rattlesnakes with radio transmitters, to turtle trapping with AZGFD, and bird surveys with the Audubon society (including this year's Christmas bird count).
I also feel very fortunate to have had opportunities that allowed me to visit many terrestrial and marine ecosystems that include scuba diving several marine locations that include Catalina Island, the Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, and the Sea of Cortez. I will share with you some of what I learned from these wonderfully beautiful ecosystems.
Lastly, I enjoy the teaching aspect of being a professor and am happy to have your questions! I look forward to getting to know all of you over the next 15weeks.
